Olive App

ROLE

UX Designer

COMPANY

I designed a well-being and tracking app aimed at helping users build healthier habits and gain a clearer understanding of their daily routines. The project followed a full end-to-end UX process, beginning with user research to uncover pain points and motivations, moving into strategy to define goals and priorities, and finally translating insights into wireframes and design solutions.

Problem

Users want to understand how their daily habits and activities have an impact on their overall health.

Health and wellness are increasingly important considerations for individuals, but making meaningful progress can be challenging. Individuals are often overwhelmed by conflicting information, a lack of clear guidance, and busy schedules, making it difficult to manage and improve their well-being. As a result, there is a growing need for a solution that can help individuals navigate the complexities of health and wellness and make meaningful progress towards their goals.

How may we empower users to navigate the complexities of a busy lifestyle and conflicting information, and achieve their health and well-being goals with confidence?

A one-stop service with all the relevant medical and wellbeing data in order to have the best overview of their health and have personalized recommendations.

User Interviews & Competitor Analysis

People's well-being needs are unique and often complex, and I wanted to addresses their specific needs. By conducting user interviews and a survey I was able to get a clear sense of the pain points and requirements they have when it comes to tracking and enhancing their well-being.

Additionally, I also conducted a competitor analysis to assess the current market landscape for well-being apps. This allowed me to identify both opportunities and challenges in the market and understand how my app could stand out among its competitors.

The information I’ve gathered from the user interviews and surveys, as well as the competitor analysis have been invaluable in helping me refine the product strategy and features, ensuring that my app meets the needs of my target audience and provides real value in enhancing overall well-being.

Analysis & Affinity Map

My interviewees want a streamlined and effortless solution that allows them to set goals, track their activities, and communicate with their healthcare specialist, all in one place.

This highlights the need for an integrated health and wellness platform that offers these features in one place, reducing the time and effort required to manage one's health and promoting engagement and proactive behaviour

Design

I looked into what I learned from talking to people about motivation and reaching goals to figure out what steps to take next and start my ideation process.

Major iterations in my design

Iteration 1: I shifted my focus to refining the details of the design. This involved enhancing the visual appeal of the design through typography, colour choices, and visual elements. I aimed to create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing design that would engage and delight users.

Iteration 2: Based on user testing and feedback I made small adjustments to improve the overall user experience, such as making buttons easy to understand and navigation intuitive.

Iteration 3: Making the design accessible and easy to use for all users, ensured that the text was easy to read and tested the design to ensure that the contrast was within the recommended ratio.

What I would do if I have more time...

I have a few ideas I'd like to explore in order to continue enhancing Olive.

I believe that adding social features to the application will foster a sense of community and increase user retention. To test this hypothesis, I will conduct a user study with a sample of my user base, where half will have access to the social features and half will not. I’ll then conduct a survey with a representative sample of the target user base to gauge their interest in social features and how they envision using them. This can provide valuable insights into the types of social features that users are interested in and what outcomes they expect from them.

Providing educational content and resources related to health and wellness would improve user understanding and engagement with the app. I would create a section in the app that provides articles, videos, and other resources related to various health topics.

As I would continue to refine the application, my user testing would become more precise and focused. I would still gather both qualitative and quantitative data, but be more discerning about what areas I test to make sure I'm getting the most valuable insights. My target timeline for improvement and implementation would be 2-3 months, though this may change depending on the results of my testing and user feedback.
